What is Sap Return to Duty Program?
An
SAP assessor can be involved in all phases of the scheme. The Return to
Duty SAP procedure is mandatory when a DOT regulated safety-sensitive
employee is found to violate a DOT mandated drug and alcohol test. It
occurs when an employee fails a Dot drug test or refuses to take the
test. The employee must immediately be removed from all safety sensitive
purposes and is required to complete the Sap Return to Duty process.
The procedures begin with a face-to-face Sap Evaluation conducted by
Substance Abuse Professionals. As they have met the credentials and
training requirements set by the department of transportation. SAP has
treatment and/or education recommendations for the employee. Once the
employee effectively complied with the recommendations then the
follow-up face-to-face DOT SAP evaluation is scheduled with the same
SAP. Sap issues a written determination to the employee’s eligibility
and ineligibility to perform a safety-sensitive job.
